Retired firefighter Harry Gillen from Ladder 131, Engine 279 in Red Hook stands in front of the two stained-glass windows he handcrafted in memory of five men from his firehouse who sacrificed their lives at the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001. The windows bear the names and helmets of his fallen brothers along with an FDNY shield and the Twin Towers. A parishioner of St. Patrick’s Church, Bay Ridge, Gillen attended the firehouse’s annual Sept. 11 memorial Mass last Sunday. (Photo: Marie Elena Giossi)
