Father Gerard Michael Mulvey, O.F.M. Cap., will celebrate his 25th anniversary as a Franciscan Capuchin in the fall.

Born in the Bronx, he attended Cardinal Spellman H.S. and Manhattan College, and the novitiate for the Capuchin Franciscan Friars in Garrison, N.Y.

He professed first vows in 1984, perpetual vows three years later and studied theology at Maryknoll School of Theology in Ossining, N.Y., and Immaculate Conception Seminary at Seton Hall University in South Orange, N.J.

He was ordained to the priesthood on Sept. 21, 1991 by Bishop Patrick Sheridan.

He served for over 15 years in various parishes served by the Capuchins in Manhattan, including Our Lady of Sorrows, St. John the Baptist and Our Lady Queen of Angels. He was pastor at Our Lady Queen of Angels, 2001-07.

Following a sabbatical, he was assigned to St. Pius X Church and Friary in Middletown, Conn. He served one year as parochial vicar before becoming pastor for three years.

In 2011, he returned to Manhattan to serve on the staff of St. John the Baptist. In 2013, he was appointed as administrator of the Church of the Holy Cross.

In June 2015, he was named co-director of formation for the postulants of the Capuchins and moved to St. Michael’s Friary, East New York.

In this ministry, he works with the postulants in the first year of formation to be friars and prepares them for the novitiate.
