Sister Julia Murphy, O.P., a member of the Dominican Sisters of Amityville, L.I., for 65 years, died April 19 at the age of 86.

Born as Johanna Cecilia in Manhattan, she was raised in Elmhurst, where she was a member of the Ascension parish. She attended Bishop McDonnell H.S., Brooklyn, and entered the congregation in 1950.

She taught at All Saints, Williamsburg; St. Hugh, Huntington Station, L.I.; Cure of Ars, Merrick, L.I.; St. Agnes, Rockville Centre, L.I.; and St. Catherine of Sienna, Franklin Square, L.I..

In 1973, she was assigned to teach at St. John the Baptist Diocesan H.S., West Islip, L.I

In 2015, poor health required retirement to the motherhouse in Amityville.

She is survived by her brother, Jack.

Burial was in Amityville.
