The Mary Louis Academy, Jamaica Estates, and Holy Cross High School, Flushing, will be combining efforts this year on a variety of projects.
The first was a joint collection drive for Veterans’ Day which aided the patients at the U.S. Veterans Hospital in Springfield Gardens. Students in both schools collected personal hygiene items, such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, socks, shampoo and the like which were brought to the hospital on Veterans’ Day. Students also wrote cards and notes of thanks which were tucked in with the items.
On Nov. 13, Holy Cross men served as escorts for the TMLA ladies at the fashion show sponsored by the Holy Cross Mothers Club. The show took place at The North Shore Tower catering hall from 1 to 4 p.m. The young couples modeled current fashion trends for the upcoming 2012 prom season.
Additional activities are also scheduled that will join the two schools. At present, the Mary Louis Varsity Cheerleaders spur on the Holy Cross football team at most of their games. The two schools also have plans for joint efforts with their Fine Arts departments, their National Honor Societies and other school related groups.
