In anticipation of his first season leading the St. John’s University, Jamaica, men’s basketball team, Brooklyn’s own Chris Mullin has been busy filling out his coaching staff.

Mullin recently tabbed fellow Naismith Memorial Hall of Famer and two-time Olympian Mitch Richmond to join him on the Johnnies bench. Richmond and Mullin played three seasons together with the Golden State Warriors.

Richmond was a six-time NBA All-Star during his 14-year career with the Warriors, Sacramento Kings, Washington Wizards and Los Angeles Lakers. He will serve in a variety of roles for the Red Storm.

“I am really excited to begin this new chapter of my basketball career at St. John’s University,” Richmond said. “Throughout my life, I have had the opportunity to learn from great coaches who were mentors on and off the court. I look forward to passing along this knowledge and putting in the work to help elevate this program. Mully and I were always coaches on the floor, so I am thrilled to join him for this new venture.”

Mullin also named Greg St. Jean as assistant men’s basketball coach. He spent the last two years working for the Sacramento Kings, most recently serving as the assistant player development coach during the 2014-2015 season.

“Greg is a star in the making,” Mullin said. “At such a young age, he has already put in a tremendous amount of time and energy into the profession of coaching. As a result, he has developed a unique combination of on-court skill development and conditioning experience, and infuses positive energy into everything he does.”

St. John’s season opens Nov. 4 with a home exhibition game against St. Thomas Aquinas College, Sparkill, N.Y.
