Sister Joan M. Kellenberg, r.c., a member of the Religious of the Cenacle for 60 years, died Oct. 8 at Villa St. Joseph, the home of the Congregation of the Infant Jesus in Rockville Centre, L.I. She was 83 years old.
Born in Manhattan, she entered the congregation in 1954 and professed her perpetual vows in Rome in 1962. Her uncle, Walter P. Kellenberg, the first bishop of the Diocese of Rockville Centre, traveled to Rome with other family members to witness her vows.
She lived out her vocation of solitude, silence and prayer while carrying on an active ministry at Cenacle Retreat Houses in Brighton, Mass.; Toronto; Middletown, Conn.; Pittsburgh; and Ronkonkoma, L.I.
In the Brooklyn Diocese, she gave many retreat programs for charismatic prayer groups and Carmelite tertiary groups.
A private funeral Mass was celebrated Oct. 15 for Cenacle Sisters and family.
