More than 300 people, with the majority of the faithful being Catholics of Indian ancestry, participated in the procession and the special Mass that preceded it. St. Alphonsa (1910-1946) ministered as a Franciscan Clarist religious sister and is the first woman of Indian origin to be canonized. She is beloved by the Indian Catholic community, especially among the faithful from the state of Kerala, her birthplace.
