Bishop Ford H.S., Park Slope, hosted the 74th annual Basketball Old-Timers of America dinner May 3. Four new inductees joined the ranks of the 183 Old-Timers in the Hall of Fame. They are: Willie Hall, Tom Konchalski, Mike Riordan and Bobby Cremins.
Hall is a graduate of Archbishop Molloy H.S., Briarwood, who went on to star at St. John’s University, Jamaica. He played on the 1959 undefeated freshman team for the Johnnies and was part of legendary coach Lou Carnesecca’s first-ever recruiting class.
Konchalski is also a Molloy graduate who since 1979 has served as a high school basketball scout up and down the East Coast. His High School Basketball Illustrated (HSBI) newsletter is renowned among college basketball coaches nationwide.
Riordan was a combo guard/forward at Holy Cross H.S., Flushing. He went on to average 9.9 pts. per game in nine NBA seasons. He was a member of the 1970 New York Knicks’ team that won an NBA championship.
Cremins went to All Hallows H.S., the Bronx, and then played baketball at the University of South Carolina, Columbia, S.C. He amassed a 570-367 career coaching record (.608 winning percentage) as the head coach for Applachian State University, Boone, N.C.; Georgia Tech, Atlanta; and the College of Charleston, S.C.
