Cancer Survivor Story
Dear Editor: I read the story about the cancer survivor in The Tablet (“Survivor Gets Courage from St. Agatha’s Intercession,” Oct.26), and I was happy for her.
I was born in 1930, and when I was nearly 60, I flatlined for 15 minutes. I’ve had cancer four times, but when I had thyroid cancer, I went into cardiac arrest. I don’t remember much, but my life has been full of love and God’s graces.
I have nine children and 50 grandchildren. My childhood sweetheart did not survive, and I also lost a daughter. I guess we have to stay here until we finish our job. I am still blessed with a healthy and full life. I still drive and go to the senior center.
I talk a lot, and I think that’s why I can’t go up yet. They are keeping me here until I don’t talk so much.
P.S. That will never happen.

In Response to a Reader’s Letter
Dear Editor: I accept all the statistics that Thomas Cullinane presents (The High Cost of Lives Lost by Abortion, Nov. 9).
May I present one more statistic? It is projected that over a billion people will be killed or affected by global warming over the next decade.
If he is pro-life, why is he not concerned about the lives lost entirely due to something within our control?
People have abortions for various reasons: to save the life of the mother, the fetus has massive cognitive or physical damage, and the pregnancy is the result of incest or rape. Using abortion as a form of birth control is an egregious sin.
But the pain caused by addressing global warming is infinitesimally smaller than the pain caused by the consequences of global warming: drowning, disease, drought, hyperthermia, starvation, massive migration in search of water and food.
I have written before that there seems to be a hierarchy of innocence. I feel it is incumbent upon me to remind pro-lifers that every life is precious and a gift from God.

Following God’s Commandments
Dear Editor: One of God’s commandments is “Thou shall not kill.” Abortion is plainly killing or taking a life.
Not only do Catholics have a right to try to save and prevent the taking of lives caused through abortion, but they also have a Divine Duty as followers of Christ’s Commandments to do so.

Thank You for the Coverage
Dear Editor: I’m writing to express my gratitude towards Jessica Easthope of Currents News, who has done a wonderful job of covering the Archdiocese of Newark over the past several years.
Working with Jess is always an absolute pleasure, and the segments she produces are nothing short of phenomenal.
Her latest piece involving the archdiocese, which profiled a deacon who moonlights as an Elvis tribute artist, seamlessly blended fascinating insights with a profound message of faith. It was a joy to watch.
We Catholics in the NY/NJ area are blessed to have Jess on our airwaves, keeping us informed about inspiring stories and crucial Church happenings.
I look forward to collaborating with her for many more years to come.
