Eighth-grade students in the metropolitan area can now register to take the Test for Admission into Catholic High Schools (TACHS) and choose the school they wish to attend next year.
Deadline for Internet and telephone registration is Oct. 30 at 10:59 P.M.
The exams are now available for the Brooklyn Diocese (Nov. 9) — or in the Archdiocese of New York (Nov. 8) or the Diocese of Rockville Centre (Nov. 9).
Only three choices are allowed.
FINALIZING CHOICES
The Tablet has invited local Catholic high schools to participate in this special section to help prospective high school students and their families be aware of their options and make a final decision.
Fifteen high schools located in Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan, and Long Island are highlighted in the following pages. Families of eighth-graders who are planning to take the TACHS exam (and even seventh graders who will be taking it next year) should read through each school’s profile, including academic, spiritual and extracurricular offerings, and carefully consider the best fit for their child for the next four years.
GETTING READY FOR THE EXAM
The online exam will feature Proctorio, a record-and-review software application that will be in use while the student is testing. Students and parents should make sure they have done the following before the test:
- Review the online remote testing system and device requirements prior to registration.
- Understand and be able to consent to the use of Proctorio; the Artificial Intelligence (AI) system that will monitor and record your student’s test session.
EXAM DAY ESSENTIALS
For those taking the TACHS, keep in mind that on the day of the exam the test will be administered one of two times — 8:30 a.m. or 10 a.m.
Extended Testing Time students will test at 8:30 a.m.
The test lasts approximately two hours with time allotted for directions and pauses between the subtests.
