Sister Saint Raymond Quinn, CSJ, a Sister of St. Joseph for 67 years, died on July 30, 2024. She was 85 years old.

Born Kathleen Quinn, she grew up in a devoted Irish family in which she first experienced the example of a life centered on the love of God and concern for others.

After graduating from Our Lady, Help of Christians Elementary School and St. Brendan’s High School, she entered the Sisters of St. Joseph in 1957.

From 1960 to 1974, Sister St. Raymond taught first and second grades at St. Brendan’s School (Brooklyn) and Our Lady of Sorrows School (Corona).

Sister St. Raymond’s educational background included earning a BS in Education from Brentwood College, an MS in Early Education from Hunter College, and an MS in Administration from Fordham University.

She also attended the Molloy College Spanish Institute from 1980 to 1987 to enrich herself as she assumed the role of principal at Our Lady of Sorrows School from 1975 to 1991. In 1991, Sister St. Raymond returned to the classroom at St. Gabriel’s School (East Elmhurst) to teach preschool.

In 2007, Sister Saint Raymond was asked to assume the position of assistant coordinator at Sacred Heart Convent, Hempstead. Here, through her deep faith, great love, wit, and humor, she shared her special gifts with all the sisters of St. Joseph who lived there.

On August 3, Rev. Thomas Ahearn celebrated Sister St. Raymond’s Mass of Christian Burial, assisted by Msgr. Andrew Vaccari and Msgr. Robert Pawson, in Sacred Heart Chapel, Brentwood, New York. Burial followed at Calvary Cemetery, Brentwood.
