Elaine M. Scharfenberger, the mother of Albany (N.Y.) Bishop Edward Scharfenberger, who is a native of Brooklyn and a former priest of the Diocese of Brooklyn, died on Nov. 6 at her home in Warwick, N.Y. She was 99.

Her funeral Mass was offered at St. Stephen the First Martyr Church in Warwick on Nov. 8. Burial followed at St. Stephen Cemetery. Bishop Scharfenberger celebrated the funeral Mass.

Bishop Scharfenberger became bishop of theDiocese of Albany in 2014. Previously, he was pastor of St. Matthias Parish in Ridgewood. His mother is survived by three sons and two daughters as well as by five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Edward, of 68 years.
