Sister Frances Therese McGlynn, C.S.J., a Sister of St. Joseph, Brentwood, for 69 years, died Aug. 1.
She entered the congregation in 1948 from St. Joseph parish, Kings Park, L.I. She earned a bachelor’s degree in teaching from St. John’s University, Jamaica, a master’s in administration and supervision from St. John’s University and a master’s in social work from Adelphi University.
Formerly known as Sister Mary Aquinas, her ministries included St. Ambrose, Bedford-Stuyvesant, 1950-53; Immaculate Conception, Jamaica, 1953; Our Lady of Victory, Bedford-Stuyvesant, 1953-63; St. John the Evangelist, Park Slope, 1963-64; St. Francis de Sales, Belle Harbor, 1964-66, and St. Joachim, Cedarhurst, L.I., 1966-67.
From 1967 to 1973, she was principal of Nativity of Our Blessed Lord, Bedford-Stuyvesant.
She then served at St. Clare’s parish, Rosedale, 1974-78, and Stella Maris H.S., Rockaway Park, 1978-79.
Starting in 1979, her ministry work was based in Long Island, where she was the human development coordinator at St. Mary of the Isle, Long Beach, 1979-82; a social worker at Help Aid Direction Counseling Center, Hicksville, 1983-86; director at East Meadow Counseling Center, East Meadow, 1986-2009, and as a social worker St. Brigid parish, Westbury. She retired in 2009.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated in St. Joseph Renewal Center, Brentwood, Aug. 7. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery, Brentwood.
