50 Years in Mill Basin

Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio celebrated the closing Mass Sept. 9 for St. Bernard of Clairvaux parish’s 50th jubilee year in Mill Basin. The parish was established in 1961 to meet the needs of a growing community. The school was built, and the auditorium served as the temporary church. In 1989, the new church was dedicated. Bishop DiMarzio blessed a plaque in dedication to the founding members of the parish, known as the “Tent People” because they initially attended Mass in a tent before the school was built. He also blessed the Memorial Walkway, consisting of bricks with names and messages.
