Letters to the Editor

One and Only Brother Peter

Dear Editor: First, let me thank you and The Tablet staff for reporting so well on World Youth Day. It’s refreshing to have the news about an important event like this given the attention it deserves. I find it almost creepy that the secular media steers away from such news as if it were some kind of disservice to report on it. Again, thanks to all.

I’m writing this letter to help celebrate in a small way one of the Brother Jubilarians mentioned in the June 8, issue of The Tablet – Brother Peter Bonventre, F.S.C., known to me and my brother Pat since our days at Bishop Loughlin H.S. (I’m a 1960 graduate). Brother celebrated his 70th Jubilee this year. We remember him by his name in religion as Brother Baldwin Peter.

Brother Peter was always available to us old Loughlinites for chats and reminiscences at reunions. In fact, we sort of relied on the knowledge that he was “always there,” exemplifying a rare and wonderful devotion to his life as a Christian Brother.

I couldn’t really afford to take out a space in the Tablet to notify my and my brother’s gratitude for this special Brother. But I felt I should let someone know that the Communion of Saints is a real live fact, and that all of us who welcomed the care and education of the Brothers prayerfully remember them, and are deeply grateful.
