A spectacular double 90th birthday celebration was held on March 28 at the Golden Age Club of Our Lady of Mercy Church, Forest Hills, for Gloria Mack and Fran Sidlo. Cabaret singer Dian Wroblewski put on a show in the parish hall that included Broadway and classic tunes. He interacted with the audience singing songs that were familiar to many, who mouthed the words and sang along. Some even took to the floor dancing. Goldies’ own, Wally Duome, joined Wroblewski at the microphone for the final encore, “New York, New York.” The birthday gals enjoyed the entertainment and were thrilled to be front and center, waving their arms alongside the singing duo. “I wasn’t too happy about 90, but this really started me off with a smash!” Mack said.

Julie Chen, CBS television personality and St. Francis Prep graduate established a special scholarship fund at the school to help students with the cost of their tuition.

She has agreed to donate $250,000 to establish a permanent scholarship fund that will assist deserving girls who may otherwise find it difficult financially to attend the Fresh Meadows high school. The first of these awards will be presented to selected students this coming September for the 2018-19 school year.
