Xavier High School

Transforming the World for God’s Greater Glory

Founded in 1847, Xavier High School is an academically rigorous, Catholic, Jesuit, college preparatory school in New York City that educates intelligent, motivated young men of diverse backgrounds and means. Xavier teaches students to take responsibility for their lives, to lead with integrity, to act justly in service of others, to pursue excellence in every endeavor and to deepen their relationship with God. Ultimately, Xavier forms young men who will go forth to transform the world for God’s greater glory.

Xavier proudly embraces its mission, deeply rooted in Jesuit educational methods and Catholic values and yet adaptive to today’s ever-changing world. Opened in September 2016, Fernandez-Duminuco Hall is outfitted with state-of-the-art facilities that broaden students’ ability to demonstrate their learning, including a robotics classroom, a performing arts space and band room replete with a recording studio.

Fernandez-Duminuco Hall enhances Xavier’s ability to offer young men a first-rate education, instill in them the habits of mind and heart that prepare them for some of the best colleges and universities in the country and equip them to be tomorrow’s leaders in the city, of the Church, across the nation, and throughout the world.

How else does Xavier fulfill this promise to transform young men to become ‘persons for and with others’? By embodying the principle of cura personalis – that is, care of the whole person – Xavier’s teachers, coaches, counselors, and administrators strive daily to challenge, instruct and mentor each and every student.

Aside from rigorous academic coursework and the successful athletic, campus ministry and co-curricular activities, Xavier offers its students tremendous leadership and service opportunities in the form of an award-winning military science program and the impactful Companions of St. Francis Xavier service and immersion trips. Sons of Xavier discover their hidden talents and abilities so that they may put them in service to God and others.

Come discover how Xavier delivers on its promise of sending forth young men of competence, conscience, compassion, commitment, and creativity.
