Up Front and Personal

We Prayed, We Sang, & Walked With Mary

by Sandra Sanon

Christ the King Church in Springfield Gardens achieved a successful 2026 Rosary Rally on Oct. 10.

Armed with rosaries, posters, and banners, using our “outside” voices and our strong faith, approximately 50-60 members
of the parish community, including members of the children’s choir, youth group, and adults of all age groups, along with our priests, rallied together joyfully to give glory to God and the Blessed Mother.

I met a lady who said she came to represent St. Pius X Church in Rosedale.

I am so thankful to the 116th precinct officers who escorted us as we marched from the church’s grotto of Our Lady up 145th Road while we sang and prayed the rosary.

Once at the park by the firehouse on Springfield Blvd., it was time for a photo with everyone in attendance and the police. We then, still with police escort, marched back to Christ the King Church, singing and dancing for the Lord Jesus and the Blessed Mother.

We give praise to God for a wonderful, sunny day, perfect temperature, and very limited wind. I was happy to see many onlookers intently observing, with some participating and others accepting a rosary or flyers.

I am very pleased with the outcome of all the preparations. I am even more hopeful that those who could not join us will make a greater effort to participate next year.

To each person who invited, reminded, or picked up another person, and to my family, I say “thank you.”

And much appreciation to the banner holders and anyone else who helped in any way. I am going to be very biased by giving special thanks to my right-hand man, my son Christopher, for being the tech specialist.

Our church’s Director of Faith Formation, Ms. Robbin Johnson, has helped me every year to secure a police escort and advise me, and this year she was tasked with setting up the booklets.

To her, I am also so grateful.
