For Nursing Home Residents, Years Melt Away When Students Come

The lifting of COVID-19 restrictions in nursing homes in New York is being cheered by residents of Hillside Manor Rehabilitation and Extended Care, a 400-bed facility in Jamaica Estates. It means the girls of The Mary Louis Academy will be coming back.

Doing what you love in the comfort of your home is one thing, but doing it in a national talent show competition elevates that passion to a whole new level. The Northwell Health Nurse Choir, made up of 18 local frontline nurses, knows that feeling extremely well after singing a mash-up of Bill Withers’ “Lean on Me” and Ben King’s “Stand by Me” and receiving the highly desired Golden Buzzer on this season of America’s Got Talent.

Students’ Art Met with Approval

Renoir, da Vinci, Gris, Degas … Yuricic, Carbonell, and Jurgens? The Metropolitan Museum of Art, which features a collection that includes more than two million works of art spanning 5,000 years, now includes three Mary Louis Academy students’ artwork on display.
