Each year, The Tablet recognizes one outstanding graduate from each school as a way of saluting that year’s entire class. The scholars profiled here are young women and men who have distinguished themselves through academic achievement, Christian leadership and community involvement.

“Teens talk to teens differently,” said Paron. “That’s why high school journalism matters.You can talk to other young people and get a story that no one else can get. If you’re not talking to them, that means 26 percent of the population isn’t getting their voice heard and part of the tenet in journalism is to be a voice to the voiceless.”
Brooklyn Deputy Borough President Diana Reyna spoke at a panel where students from her alma mater, St. Joseph H.S., Downtown Brooklyn, showcased what they learned in their new Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Fabrication Lab.

After another exciting season of GCHSAA hoops action, here are the 2016-2017 Brooklyn/Queens girls’ high school basketball all-stars.
The GCHSAA basketball season wrapped up with the diocesan, city and state championship games. The Mary Louis Academy, Msgr. McClancy and St. Joseph’s are big varsity winners.
More than 40 students from the Diocese of Brooklyn and the New York Archdiocese were invited to Washington, D.C., Feb. 23 to visit different historical monuments that highlighted the African-American culture, including the Martin Luther King Jr. memorial and the National African American History and Culture Museum.
Washington’s newest attraction – the National Museum of African American History and Culture – welcomed its millionth visitor in February, not even six months after its official opening. For some of the young women from St. Joseph H.S., Downtown Brooklyn, the museum visit was their first experience outside of New York City and into a cultural exhibition of their African heritage.
