Queens Centenarian’s Faith Shines Bright at St. Teresa of Avila Birthday Celebration

Rosita Lewis never imagined she’d live to 105, but now that she has, she credits God for her longevity.  “Who else would do it? No one else can,” Lewis said. “I love my God, and I talk to him all the time.” Lewis, a beloved parishioner of St. Teresa of Avila Church in South Ozone Park for over 40 years, celebrated the milestone on June 14, three days after her birthday. 

A ‘Mass’ Wedding In South Ozone Park

This past winter, Matilde passed away on a trip to Peru, the family’s native country. The children had her body brought back to White Plains, N.Y., where they live, for the funeral. One day, while praying with the family, their cousin-in-law Manuel Mendoza felt the Holy Spirit nudge him to invite the siblings who had been married civilly back to the faith.
