Middle Village Parish Honors Religious Life

As the Year of Consecrated Life nears its end, the parish of Our Lady of Hope invited all those who are living out a consecrated vocation to celebrate the Eucharist Oct. 11 at the Middle Village church. “We thank you, for where would we be without your ministry,” Father Carrano said to those visiting his parish.

Missing Msgr. Sivillo

Dear Editor: This is in response to the obituary of Msgr. Nicholas Sivillo (April 18).

I was a parishioner of Our Lady of Hope from my baptism (at age 18 days) until recently. I was an altar boy (that’s what we called them back then) from November, 1975 to October, 1985, and an usher under both Msgr. Sivillo and the present pastor, Father Carrano.

Msgr. Sivillo Already Missed

Dear Editor: We have lost one of the jewels in the Brooklyn-Queens diocesan crown. The death of Msgr. Nicholas W. Sivillo is a devastating loss for all who knew and loved him. As a parishioner at Our Lady of Hope from 1993 to 2009, I had the privilege of witnessing his pastorship and benefiting from his ministry. His experience, wisdom and spiritual guidance were invaluable. He was a kind, gentle, caring man, who always supported and encouraged his flock.

He is concise, clear and to the point. He gives background and often touches on all of the day’s readings to connect them and show their relevance to our lives as we live them.
