If you take a look at Joe Giannuzzi’s resume, there’s only one stop: Holy Cross H.S. in Flushing. Giannuzzi was among seven inductees to the CHSAA’s Hall of Fame on May 9 at the Inwood Country Club on Long Island. He most notably served as head basketball coach for the Knights’ varsity ‘B’ team for 25 years.

Unfortunately, none of the diocese’s Catholic high schools field water polo teams, but that wasn’t always the case. In the early 1960s, swimmers at Bishop Loughlin H.S., Fort Greene, started their very own water polo club program.

The Nazareth H.S., East Flatbush, varsity boys’ basketball team fought its hardest, though the Kingsmen fell 66-51 in the CHSAA ‘AA’ city championship game to Archbishop Stepinac H.S., White Plains, N.Y.
St. Francis Prep’s Ethan Beer finished fourth overall in the shot put at the New York State Federation Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
Charlie O’Donnell, who spent 57 years with the CHSAA, died June 28 at the age of 81.
