Annual Catholic Youth Day Celebration Reaches Record-High Number

On Nov. 15 the diocese welcomed a record 1,853 young Catholics to its annual Catholic Youth Day celebration — a number Father James Kuroly, director for Youth and Young Adult Ministry for the diocese, attributed to the dedication of youth ministers.

As a reporter for Currents News, Katie Vasquez can usually be found running after a breaking news story. But on Nov. 2, the intrepid reporter was running for an entirely different reason. Vasquez was one of an estimated 55,000 runners who participated in the New York City Marathon.  

Sign of the Times: New York City Renames Street Corner for Saint Mark Catholic Academy

As the deputy superintendent of schools in the Diocese of Brooklyn, Joan McMaster visits many schools. An Oct. 27 visit to Saint Mark Catholic Academy, she said, was extra special. McMaster, a graduate, attended the unveiling of a new street sign designating the corner outside of the school as “Saint Mark Catholic Academy Way.
