Former St. John’s University, Jamaica, basketball standouts Gus Alfieri and Jayson Williams were inducted Sept. 14 into the New York City Basketball Hall of Fame as part of the 27th annual induction dinner held at the New York Athletic Club in Manhattan.

Another Olympic Hero

Dear Editor: Jim Mancari’s article (Aug. 17) about the Olympic swimmer was very well done. However, in this present era most Catholic schools, in order to survive, enroll students of other faiths and cultures. Although the Catholic students represented both the U.S. and their local Catholic schools, their main witness was not to their religion.

Obituary: Brother Donald Kelly, F.M.S.

Brother Donald Kelly, F.M.S., a member of the Marist Brothers of the Schools for 55 years, died Aug. 3, at his residence in Poughkeepsie. He was 74.

Obituary: Michael Vaccaro

Michael Vaccaro, former teacher and dean of discipline at Christ the King H.S. in Middle Village, died on Aug. 18.
