For Frank Kotnik, the years since 9/11 have brought painful memories, health struggles, and the lasting weight of what he saw while working at ground zero. But through every difficult chapter, he said, faith has given him the strength to keep moving forward.
For 27 years, people have filled a triangle park in this neighborhood around Memorial Day to honor its namesake, Marine Corps Maj. Eugene McCarthy, who died in Operation Desert Storm. But this year’s observance on Sunday, May 19, took on a new significance — a rededication to include a plaque for McCarthy’s older brother, Dennis.
Msgr. John Delendick, the FDNY Catholic chaplain who passed away from 9/11-related pancreatic cancer on Nov. 23, was remembered at his funeral Mass on Friday, Dec. 1 as a brother to firefighters and as a good and faithful shepherd.
