DeSales Media Group’s very own Carrie White, left, and Kimberly Benn, right, were honored May 20 at the 2014 Women in Business Networking and Awards Event, presented by the Queens Courier and hosted at Terrace on the Park, Flushing. The event honored influential women whose major achievements and participation in many community activities throughout the years has helped the borough of Queens grow.

 

Looking to get a break from the routine without going too far? Head over to St. Andrew Avellino parish, Flushing, for Brunch and an Art Show featuring local artists on June 22. Arrive for the 10:30 a.m. Mass and then head over to the school cafeteria to see the yearlong efforts of the  parish’s Oriental Brush Painting Class while sampling some delicious food. Show runs from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and tickets are $12 for adults with discounts for children. Tickets can be purchased at the door. Proceeds will benefit the  St. Vincent de Paul Society and the church. 

 

Join the Helpers of God’s Precious Infants in prayer and sacrifice for the unborn at the Helpers’ monthly pro-life Mass, this Saturday, June 14, 7:30 a.m. at Presentation B.V.M., Jamaica. After Mass, attendees will process peacefully to the local abortion facility and pray the rosary for the unborn.

Holy Trinity parish, Whitestone, offers a once monthly Sunday Mass especially for families with special needs children and adults. The next Mass is set for June 22 at 12:30 p.m. and the celebrant will be Father Joseph Gibino. While all are welcome, this Mass will offer a loving and open environment for those with special ministry needs. Fellowship will follow. 

 

Celebrate the lives of holy American men and women at Our Lady of Refuge parish, Flatbush, this month. On June 28, seminarian John Gribowich will speak at 6:30 p.m. about the lives of the 12 American Blesseds who are on the road to canonization. Father Michael Perry, pastor, will then celebrate 7:30 p.m. Mass in honor of Venerable Pierre Toussaint. On June 30, Father Rony Mendes, parochial vicar, will celebrate a 7:30 p.m. Spanish Mass commemorating the death of Toussaint. All are welcome. This week’s Tip of the Tablet TALK Top Hat goes to Troop 4-388, the first Cadette Girl Scout troop from St. Kevin Church, Flushing, to earn the “Mary, the First Disciple” Catholic Scouting Award. The girls, from left, Kate Harnett, Joanna Daly, Julia Bonanno and Victoria Listort, were recently recognized during a special ceremony at Our Lady of Hope Church, Middle Village. Father Thomas Vassalotti, diocesan scouting chaplain, above right, presided over the ceremony. Congratulations!
