The History of Icons

Linda Corcoran, center, holds her painting of the Archangel Michael, which she displayed at a recent meeting of the Secular Franciscan Fraternity of St. Adalbert Church, Elmhurst. Corcoran gave a talk on the history of icons and icon painting, considered a “writing” rather than a painting in the Eastern Rite because it is prepared in prayer and fasting. Looking on are members of the fraternity, from left, Florence O’Connor, Terry Ornas, Constance Watz, Mary Ann Page, Arlene Muller and Carmela Cangialosi. (Photo courtesy Ben Schiff)
