Our Lady of Lourdes Food Pantry Needs Funds, Food

The food pantry at Our Lady of Lourdes parish, Queens Village, is in desperate need of funds and food.  July’s hours had to be shortened because of lack of supplies, and August’s availability may be even leaner.  Sister Christine, M.S.B.T., would like to open in September with the shelves full.  Contact her at 718-479-0929 or e-mail olloutreach@netzero.net.

Observe the Year of Faith at OLHC

Hosted by Rooted In Jesus Christ, an adult faith formation community, the series begins Oct. 13, following 5 p.m. Mass in the rectory conference room of Our Lady Help of Christians, Midwood. Subsequent sessions will be held every second and fourth Sundays of the month through Nov. 23, 2013. For more details, e-mail RiJC.Community@gmail.com or call 718-338-5242.

Children Connect Through Cookies

Knowing that many families with young children make use of the Sister Mary Conroy Food Pantry at St. Mary’s Winfield – B.V.M. Help of Christians, Woodside, children from the parish’s summer catechetical program did something special for their less fortunate neighbors. Each child prepared two batches of homemade chocolate chip cookie mix — one for their families’ homes and one for the food pantry families. “This project teaches kids, starting at age three, to be like Jesus and take care of the hungry and poor,”  said Ann Smith, camp director. Pictured, from left, Matthew Wise, Soriya Gomez, Fiona Kernaghan and Liana Calderon show off their hard work.
