Fifty parishioners from the Diocese of Brooklyn made a summer pilgrimage to Fatima, Portugal, in honor of the centennial anniversary of the Blessed Mother’s apparitions there. Father Mark Matthias, parochial vicar at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament, Bayside, served as spiritual director for the pilgrimage, which was organized by A&G Peace Tours. En route to Fatima, the group visited Catholic sites in Porto, Braga, Coimbra, Santarem, Nazare, Lisbon and Santiago. They also learned about saints who have made a pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela, shared Mass, and had the sacrament of reconciliation available to them along with opportunities for private prayer and free time to explore.
