St. Peter Catholic Academy serves the families of four independent Roman Catholic parishes, which geographically cover a large portion of southwestern Brooklyn, including sections of Bensonhurst, Bath Beach and Gravesend.

Enrolling students from the nursery level through the eighth grade, St. Peter Catholic Academy has been spotlighted in numerous newspapers and on television news over the last few months for its outstanding dedication to academic excellence and community service.

St. Peter Catholic Academy this year has bested projected enrollment figures, welcoming over two dozen new students into its classrooms, and has expanded its offerings of extracurricular activities.

“Our parents know the long, positive history of Catholic education in America,” said Principal Mary Lou Reitz. “They also know that 100 percent of Brooklyn Catholic high school students graduate, versus less than 70 percent of public school students in New York City.”

Students’ spiritual lives are important at St. Peter Academy. Students attend prayer services, Catholic Masses and seasonal liturgies. Students also engage in community service activities such as a Thanksgiving food drive and Christmas gift drive, among many other projects that conform with the Catholic social teaching that the students learn in the classroom.

“With dutiful diligence, we work to instill in our young minds a sense of community, virtue, service, sacrifice, and love for others,” said Gerard T. Mundy, St. Peter Catholic Academy board director. “Catholic schools provide exceptional academics with a view toward cultivating the mind; but equally, Catholic education concerns itself with the development of the soul.”

St. Peter Academy boasts mathematics and science research centers, honors programs, after-school programs and Italian courses. Technologically advanced, the academy offers its students an Apple computer lab and its classrooms are equipped with both SMART Boards and wireless Internet. The academy is governed by a board of directors that oversees the operations of the academy and guides its future strategic direction.
