A School of Excellence in the Dominican Tradition
The goal of all instructional programs of St. Patrick Catholic Academy, Bay Ridge, from the three-year-old nursery program to grade eight is to prepare students to meet the academic requirements of high school and college as well as the challenges of the future. We recognize that today’s students must be equipped with the intellectual tools and abilities to meet the demands of an ever-changing world.
All students are given the opportunity to develop their talents in a caring and nurturing environment. The focus on listening, writing, organizational and study skills promotes students’ ability to comprehend, analyze and synthesize knowledge. We place an emphasis on interdisciplinary learning with all grade levels employing computers, tablets and SMART Boards for class- and school-wide projects. Students participate in projects that enhance research skills while incorporating STEM learning experiences.
The arts hold a prominent position in the academic life of St. Patrick Catholic Academy. Vocal music instruction is offered from nursery to grade eight along with third-, fourth-, and fifth-grade recorder classes. The music program is enhanced by Boys’ and Girls’ Choirs and Student Orchestra, all programmed into the school day. The art program incorporates art history and project art. Drama Club is available to students in grades four to eight. Past productions include The Little Mermaid, Jr. and Beauty and the Beast, Jr., and Aladdin, Jr. Our 2015-2016 production is Lion King, Jr.
Enrichment is offered in each grade for academically talented students. The fifth and sixth grade Dominican Scholars Program includes an introduction to Latin. St. Patrick Catholic Academy provides an education grounded in values promoting students’ spiritual as well as academic growth and development. Junior National Honor Society, Junior St. Vincent de Paul Society and Dominican Service Society members participate in activities that enhance school life and spirit and aid the community.
At St. Patrick Catholic Academy, each student is encouraged to model the patron, St. Patrick, in leading a life of faith, perseverance and commitment to service.
