Christ, Academics, Community
St. Mel’s Catholic Academy serves the Whitestone and Flushing community with a dedicated staff and strong leadership, bringing academic excellence to students in grades nursery through eighth.
The academy fosters the spiritual, social, emotional and academic growth of its students in a nurturing Christ-centered environment.
As the only elementary school in the diocese with a 1:1 take home Chromebook program, students are provided with their very own Samsung Chromebook. A strong focus on technology includes WiFi throughout the school, SMART Boards in every classroom, iPads, laptops and state-of-the-art computer labs.
St. Mel Catholic Academy has high academic standards in all grades and curriculum, and students are consistently accepted into highly competitive, specialized high school programs in New York City. One hundred percent of graduates are accepted into Catholic high schools, and $350,000 in full and partial scholarships were granted to St. Mel graduates.
A long history of athletic achievement includes championships in baseball, soccer, volleyball and basketball. Students learn the foundational basics of sports while fostering collegiality and sportsmanship. St. Mel Catholic Academy also offers extracurriculars like student council, cheerleading, yearbook, Girl Scouts, band, Oratorical Society and youth ministry.
The academy also offers a wide range of early childhood programs including toddler time, nursery, and free Pre-K for All. Collectively, the community works toward meeting today’s challenges through creative thinking and technology so that students may graduate as spiritually alert, morally aware and ethically empowered individuals.
