St. Joseph High School

Nurturing Dreams, Creating Futures Since 1904

St. Joseph High School (SJHS) has been the heart and soul of Downtown Brooklyn since its founding in 1904. While the neighborhood has gone through many transformations, SJHS has remained steadfast in educating young women through a rigorous academic curriculum, rooted in Gospel values.

Alumnae have continued their studies to be professional women in the arts, business, education, government, law, medicine and other professions, supported by a curriculum that meets the needs of diverse learners.

An education at SJHS encourages a student to question, challenge, recognize and develop her gifts so that she is able to make a profound impact on the world.

Small-size classes, state-of-the-art laboratories and a technology-equipped building is part of what makes this happen. In addition, the Career Access and Art Ready programs prepare students for the world through internships with local businesses and institutions. The Society of Young Hispanic Engineers partners with NYU-Poly to expose students to opportunities in the fields of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).

SJHS has a well-qualified faculty and staff whose commitment promotes a 100-percent graduation rate. Acceptance and scholarship awards into Barnard, Fordham, Lehigh, NYU, St. Francis College, St. John’s University, St. Joseph College, St. Thomas Aquinas, Union and other prestigious colleges and universities is aided by guidance and college counselors.

The SJHS Speech Team continues its winning ways earning finalist awards at competitions and ranks among the top five in the nation. Its STEP Team and the school newspaper continue to be among the top ranked in the Diocese of Brooklyn. Many other co-curricular activities not only enrich, but also form a well-rounded student. Students demonstrate an appreciation for the opportunities provided by being of service in and around the school’s neighborhood.

SJHS Board of Trustees is committed to keeping tuition affordable for families. The generosity of alumnae, friends and foundations sustains the school’s efforts making SJHS the best investment for the dollar in New York City.
