St. Joe’s Women’s Basketball Captures Cedar Crest Tournament Title

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The St. Joseph’s College Brooklyn, Clinton Hill, women’s basketball team captured the Cedar Crest College Tournament championship defeating NYU-Poly, 55-43, on Sunday afternoon.

The Lady Bears (3-2) move above .500 for the first time this season and have now won three straight. Three Lady Bears finished in double-figures, led by Tournament M.V.P. Kelly McNamee (The Mary Louis Academy, Jamaica Estates) who finished with 11 pts. along with grabbing four rebounds. Fellow senior Megan Moran (St. Dominic’s H.S., Oyster Bay, L.I.) scored a game-high 17 pts. and grabbed seven caroms. Taylor Raccuglia (Bishop Kearney H.S., Bensonhurst) chipped in 10 pts.

The St. Joseph’s defense held NYU-Poly (1-2) to just 25.4 percent shooting (16-of-63 from the field) with Alyssa D’apice the only Blue Jay in double figures with 13 pts.

The Lady Bears advanced to the championship defeating Lehman College, 85-78, in the opening round behind a career-high-tying 21 pts. from McNamee, leading four players in double-figures with Samantha Retas (Bishop Kearney) and Kristin D’Chiutiis (Scholars Academy, Rockaway Park) scoring 16 pts. each.
