Back to School 2016

St. Francis of Assisi, Brooklyn

St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Academy, located in the Prospect/ Lefferts Gardens area of Flatbush, has educated children for over 100 years in the Catholic tradition of excellence.

The Faith Formation Program enables students to develop a deeper understanding of the teachings of Jesus. This program comprises five interrelated components: Scripture, worship, doctrine, community, and service. We believe that the intellectual, affective, social and physical spheres are woven together in the fabric of the whole person.

The school follows the NYS curriculum for the core subjects (math, ELA, science and social studies) and is committed to including physical education, art and music in the curriculum. The academy participates in the Performing Arts School Residency Program which teaches fourth graders film making, sixth graders play writing and producing, and eighth graders Shakespeare study and performance.

Students’ knowledge and talents are also displayed at the annual Science Fair, Oratorical Contest and Christmas and Spring shows. Faculty and staff organize and run various afterschool clubs including dance, basketball, baking, martial arts, arts and crafts.

Technology is provided and updated to enhance the learning experience. A computer room with PCs provides students with a site for weekly technology classes. Classroom sets of iPads and Chromebooks are available to teachers, and classrooms are equipped with interactive whiteboards.

Students graduate equipped with strong study skills, as well as time-management and note-taking techniques that prepare them for high school and college. Many earn Catholic high school scholarships.

The school’s staff consists of dedicated educators and is blessed with the continual presence of the Sisters of St. Joseph. Dedicated to our patron, St. Francis of Assisi, peace education is integral to our program. Students are instructed to act as peer mediators, classes include focus on conflict resolution and non-violent behavior. An outdoor Peace Garden is a reminder of the school’s commitment to creating a peaceful society.

Tuition assistance is available.
