Catholic Schools Week 2017

St. Bernard Catholic Academy

Teaching With Love for Over 50 Years

“We Teach with Love” is the motto at St. Bernard Catholic Academy, a private Catholic school serving the academic and spiritual needs of students from age three to grade eight in Mill Basin, Bergen Beach and the surrounding communities.

Under the guidance of a dedicated faculty and trusted leadership, students thrive spiritually, intellectually, socially and emotionally and physically in a safe, respectful atmosphere. Kindness, compassion and a rigorous curriculum, rooted in the standards set forth by New York State and the Diocese of Brooklyn, are designed to inspire students to be lifelong learners.

St. Bernard Catholic Academy gives students opportunities to think critically, work collaboratively and make appropriate choices in an academic climate that fosters growth in each student’s ability to learn and express learning in creative ways.

St. Bernard students consistently score above state, city and diocesan averages on standardized tests. Students are also able to take Regents classes in math and science to prepare for their high school careers.

Recognizing that technology skills are key for high school, college and beyond, students are exposed to practical, responsible and ethical uses of technology. All students in grades three through eight use either iPads or Chromebooks in the classroom. The academy also has a newly renovated technology lab, and SMART Boards in every classroom.

St. Bernard Catholic Academy is a Christ-centered community and its members strive to help every child develop a personal relationship with God, which will be reflected by respect toward self and others as exemplified by Jesus in the Gospels.

Students learn about and practice their Catholic faith every day. They put their faith into action through monthly service projects and community outreach efforts.

Faculty and staff believe every child can also benefit from extracurricular activities, and offer a wide range of options, enabling students to pursue interests in arts and music, drama and dance, technology and student government. Among the more unique offerings are a Rosary Prayer Group and new this year, a Social Media Club.
