St. Bernard Catholic Academy: Teaching With Love for Over 50 Years

“We Teach with Love” is the motto at St. Bernard Catholic Academy, a private Catholic school serving the academic and spiritual needs of students from age three to grade eight in Mill Basin, Bergen Beach and the surrounding communities.

St. Bernard students thrive spiritually, intellectually, socially and emotionally and physically in a safe, respectful atmosphere, under the guidance of a dedicated, well-educated faculty and respected leadership.

A nurturing learning space and a rigorous curriculum, rooted in the standards set forth by New York State and the Diocese of Brooklyn, inspire St. Bernard students to be lifelong learners. Children are encouraged to think critically and work collaboratively in an academic climate that fosters personal growth and creative expression.

St. Bernard students consistently score above state, city and diocesan averages on standardized tests, and have the opportunity to take Regents-level classes in math and science to prepare for their high school careers.

Recognizing that technology skills are indispensable in today’s world, students

are exposed to practical, responsible and ethical uses of technology.

The academy is proud to offer hands-on learning in a newly installed LabLearner STEM lab, in addition to a recently renovated technology lab and SMART Boards in every classroom. Students in grades three through eight also use either iPads or Chromebooks in the classroom.

An early childhood playroom and resource room, and a new fine arts room for art and music classes are also among the new offerings this fall.

St. Bernard Catholic Academy is a Christ-centered community and members strive to help every child develop a personal relationship with God, which is reflected by respect toward self and others as exemplified by Jesus in the Gospels. Students learn about and practice their Catholic faith in school, at home and in the community through service work.

Extracurricular activities enable students to pursue interests in the arts and music, drama, technology and student government. Among the offerings are a Rosary Prayer Group and Social Media Club.
