St. Andrew Avellino Academy

A Home Away from Home

St. Andrew Avellino Catholic Academy’s mission is dedicated to living the principles of the Catholic tradition rooted in the Gospel of Jesus Christ, which allows students to learn to serve God and others, to develop their unique talents and skills, to strive for academic excellence and to become lifelong learners.

Home to over 300 students, the Flushing-based academy serves children in nursery through eighth grade, and also offers a Tiny Tot program. St. Andrew Avellino’s Catholic identity is lived daily by the faculty, staff and students in order to prepare them for a positive spiritual life. Students attend church on a weekly basis and take pride in reaching out to the community and also providing community service.

The academy offers a great education enabling each student to reach his or her highest potential. Recently, every eighth grader was accepted to the Catholic high school of his or her choice and many were accepted to specialized high schools. The academy not only shines academically, scoring top in Terra Nova and state testing but also boasts an excellent art and music program.

The students can enjoy both music and art as a part of the daily curriculum or take part in one of the afterschool ensembles, which include chorus, percussion, strings, piano, guitar and beginner or advanced band. The academy’s art program hosts an annual exhibit and all are welcome to experience works of art done by students of all grades.

The full-size gymnasium allows the students to enjoy a much-needed physical education program, and also offers a home to many team sports such as soccer, volleyball and basketball.

The enriched afterschool program includes Spanish classes and an enhanced science program. Dedicated faculty and staff, along with parents, strive to make the academy a safe and positive learning environment.
