>> Champagnies Tip Off Season

Bishop Loughlin H.S., Fort Greene, graduates Justin and Julian Champagnie are playing NBA basketball. Justin has begun his second season with the Toronto Raptors, while his twin brother Julian – who played college ball at St. John’s University, Jamaica, just started his rookie season with the Philadelphia 76ers.


>> Longstride Returns

For the first time in four years, the St. Clement Pope, Jamaica, Catholic Youth Organization track team hosted its 1-mile “Longstride” event on Oct. 15.

John Doyle of Kew Gardens won this year’s race, narrowly beating current Longstriders Benjamin Urbano and Daevon Branton.

Tory La Force won the women’s race, with St. Clement School alumna Michelle Nero finishing second.

Father Jeff Dillon, the parish’s former pastor who is now ministering at St. Kevin, Flushing, took home a second-place trophy in his age group.


>> HOF Induction

Holy Cross H.S., Flushing, will induct a new Hall of Fame class on Nov. 12.

Among this year’s honorees include two with ties to the school’s sports program.

Former varsity hockey coach Kevin Goodspeed, ’97, and the former varsity football coach Robert Griffin are set to be inducted.
