>> Marlowe Traded to Bills

Dean Marlowe, a graduate and former football standout at Holy Cross H.S., Flushing, was traded from the Atlanta Falcons to Buffalo Bills for a seventh-round draft pick before the NFL’s trade deadline. This is his second stint with the Bills in his career. A quarterback in high school, Marlowe, 30, is now a free safety on defense.


>> Arbitello-Pinnock Honored

JoAnn Arbitello-Pinnock, head varsity basketball coach at The Mary Louis Academy, Jamaica Estates, and the Brooklyn-Queens chairperson for the GCHSAA, was honored at Madison Square Garden on the opening night of the New York Knicks season.

She won the Community Hero Award for her dedicated work on and off the basketball court for diocesan youth.


>> Women’s College Hoops

Danielle Patterson, a former High School All-American as a senior for The Mary Louis Academy, Jamaica Estates, is gearing up for her second season on the St. John’s University, Jamaica, women’s basketball team.

As a graduate student last season, the six-foot- two-inch guard/forward saw action in 30 games with 14 starts while averaging 8.2 points and 4.7 rebounds per game.

Patterson will be joined on the Red Storm this year by another former GCHSAA star: Skye Owen of St. Francis Prep, Fresh Meadows.
