>> Konchalski to Be Honored

Tom Konchalski, the late longtime high school basketball scout so beloved in our diocese, is set to be inducted into the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame on Aug. 30 in Chicago. He will be enshrined alongside Johnny Dawkins, Tyler Hansbrough, Herb Magee, and Mike Krzyzewski.

Deviney Jackson, a senior guard on the Msgr. McClancy H.S., East Elmhurst, girls’ varsity basketball team, signed a National Letter of Intent to continue her hoops career at Felician University, Rutherford, N.J.

The Crusaders’ team captain averaged 11.9 points, 9.1 rebounds, and 2.0 steals per game en route to being named to the GCHSAA Tier 1 All-League Team as well as a Tablet All-Star.

Billy Turnage, formerly the head boys’ varsity basketball coach at Wings Academy, the Bronx, has been named to the same role at Holy Cross H.S., Flushing. His teams won 12 Public School Athletic League Bronx championships and captured the city and state championships in 2015. During his tenure, he oversaw a nine-year streak of not losing a single regular season game.
