Joe Tartamella, the head women’s basketball coach at St. John’s University, Jamaica, achieved his 200th win on Feb. 8. In his 11th season, Tartamella became the fourth active Big East Conference women’s hoops coach to reach the milestone with their current school.

St. Edmund Prep H.S., Sheepshead Bay, held a special basketball alumni day event on Feb. 10 to mark the 25th anniversary of the school going co-ed. Alumni from all years were welcomed back for a tripleheader of boys’ basketball games — freshmen, junior varsity, and varsity — against LaSalle Academy, Manhattan.

On Friday Feb. 17, St. Francis Prep, Fresh Meadows, hosted its second annual SFP Islanders Night at UBS Arena in Elmont. Members of the St. Francis Prep community watched the Isles take on the Pittsburgh Penguins, and they even got to take a group photo with Islanders’ mascot Sparky during the first intermission.
