St. Francis College, Brooklyn Heights, has announced the first-ever program signees for its two newest sports: women’s soccer and men’s volleyball.

Women’s soccer will begin in the fall of 2019 and will feature Eva Papista, Hannah Russel and Trystan Thompson-Cotterell. Papista is a defender from Detroit, Russel is a defender from New Jersey and Thompson-Cotterell is a defender from Ontario, Canada.

The men’s volleyball team will begin play during the 2019-2020 season. The three signees are outside hitter Tim Walsh from Southington, Conn.; opposite hitter David Vorfi from Aviation H.S., Long Island City; and setter Andrew Piloto from Ontario.

The Cristo Rey Brooklyn H.S., Flatbush, girls’ varsity basketball team served up more than assists on Thanksgiving morning.

The Panthers, led by head coach Anthony Alfaro, served meals to those in need at The Catholic Worker St. Joseph House in Manhattan.

Alfaro, a parishioner at American Martyrs, Bayside, began the holiday tradition six years ago while coaching at LaGuardia Community College, Long Island City.

The event served as a team-building activity for Cristo Rey Brooklyn, which plays in the GCHSAA ‘B’ Division.
