Xaverian H.S., Bay Ridge, graduate and former football standout Oday Aboushi signed a contract with the Los Angeles Chargers. The offensive lineman was the first-ever NFL draft pick from Xaverian after being selected in 2013 by the New York Jets.


Blast from the Past

The 1985-1986 Xaverian H.S., Bay Ridge, boys’ varsity basketball team won the New York State ‘B’ championship. Several local Catholic Youth Organization parishes were represented, including St. Patrick, Bay Ridge; Good Shephard, Marine Park; St. Francis de Sales, Belle Harbor; St. Thomas Aquinas, Flatlands; Our Lady of Angels, Bay Ridge; and Holy Innocents, Flatbush.


The Catholic Youth Organization of Brooklyn and Queens is hosting its first-ever “March Madness” raffle, with 300 tickets being sold at $100 per ticket. First prize is $5,000, and the drawing will occur on April 15. Purchase tickets here: cyodob.org/raffle


Local Basketball Quick-Hits

  • Bishop Loughlin H.S., Fort Greene, graduate Justin Champagnie – who plays at the University of Pittsburgh – announced that he will join his twin brother, Julian, in entering the NBA draft. Julian plays for St. John’s University, Jamaica.
  • Jordan Nixon, a graduate of The Mary Louis Academy, Jamaica Estates, scored 35 points and hit a buzzer-beating overtime shot to send Texas A & M, College Station, to the NCAA Tournament’s Sweet 16.
  • Moses Brown, a graduate of Archbishop Molloy H.S., Briarwood, signed a multi-year contract with the NBA’s Oklahoma City Thunder. He recorded his first career double-double with 20 points and 16 rebounds on March 16.
  • On March 28, former Christ the King H.S., Middle Village, standout Moussa Cissé scored six points and grabbed six boards in the University of Memphis, Tenn., National Invitation Tournament championship victory over Mississippi State University, Starkville.
