Sister Terence

Sister Mary Terence Mullin, R.S.M., 96,  a member of the Brooklyn Sisters of Mercy for 78 years, died March 30, at Ozanam Hall Nursing Home in Bayside.

Born in Brooklyn, she attended St. Thomas Aquinas School, Flatlands, and Mercy Juniorate H.S., Fort Greene.

She entered the Sisters of Mercy Novitiate in Syosset in 1940 and professed her final vows in 1945.

In 1950, she received her licensed practical nurse degree from St. Joseph’s Hospital in Yonkers,  followed by a registered nurse degree from Helene Fuld School of Registered Nursing in 1972.

She taught at St. Gregory the Great, Crown Heights, 1942-44; St. Patrick’s, Kent Ave., Fort Greene, 1944-47; Holy Rosary, Bedford-Stuyvesant, 1947-48; Holy Innocents, Flatbush, 1962-67; and St. Edward the Confessor, Syosset, L.I., 1967-69.

As a nurse, she served at Our Lady of Mercy Academy, Syosset, 1949-50; Convent of Mercy, Fort Greene, 1950, 1969-71, 1972-73; Angel Guardian Home, Brooklyn, 1950-55; Lutheran and Victory Memorial Hospital, Brooklyn, 1973-76; Nursing Sisters Home Visiting Nurse Service, 1976-88; and the Visiting Nurse Association, 1988-91.

She is survived by her sister Geraldine Baban, her brother Thomas Mullin and many loving nieces and nephews, including NBA Hall of Famer Chris Mullin.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated in the Sisters of Mercy Convent, Whitestone. Burial was in Holy Cross Cemetery, Flatbush.
