Sister Mary Donald Kelly, R.S.M.

Sister Mary Donald Kelly, R.S.M., 90, a member of the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas Mid-Atlantic Community for 72 years, died on April 5, at Maria Regina Residence in Brentwood, NY.

Born Theresa Kelly, she attended St. Jerome’s School, East Flatbush, and Mercy Juniorate High School, Fort Greene.

She entered the Sisters of Mercy Novitiate in Syosset in September, 1946 and professed her final vows in September 1952.

She earned a bachelor’s degree in Secondary English Education from St. Francis College, Brooklyn Heights.

Her years of service as educator began in St. Gregory, Crown Heights, 1949-1951; Sacred Heart, Carrol Gardens, 1951-1953; St. Patrick, Bay Shore, 1953-1960; St. Pius X, Plainview, 1960-1963; St. Therese of Lisieux, East Flatbush, 1963-1968; Holy Innocents, Flatbush, 1968-1974; and finally, as teacher and Guidance Counselor at Mercy High School, Riverhead, 1974-2000.

A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated in Sisters of Mercy Convent, Whitestone, NY. Burial was in St. Charles Cemetery, Farmingdale, NY.
