Sister M. Victoria

Sister Maria Victoria Karp, C.S.J., a member of the Sisters of St. Joseph, Brentwood, for 75 years, died Nov. 29 at the Maria Regina Residence in Brentwood.

She entered the congregation in 1944 from St. Rose of Lima parish, Parkville. She earned a bachelor’s degree in English from Manhattan College; a master’s in library science from St. John’s University and a master’s in religious studies from Fordham University.

Her ministries included St. Francis of Assisi, Crown Heights, 1946-49;

Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Sunset Park, 1949-50 and 1959-61; Holy Name of Mary, Valley Stream, L.I., 1950-54; St. Michael, Brooklyn, 1954-59; Sacred Heart Academy H.S., Hempstead, L.I., 1961-68; the Academy of St. Joseph, Brentwood, 1968-71; and the CCD Diocesan Office of Rockville Centre, 1971-80.

In 1980, she began serving at Telicare, Uniondale, and was program director from 1991-96.

She later served as teach coordinator for the library at Sacred Heart Academy H.S., Hempstead, 1997-2001, and then ministered with The Learning Connection, Brentwood, 2001-09.

A Mass of Christian Burial took place Dec. 4 in Maria Regina Chapel. Burial followed in Calvary Cemetery, Brentwood.
