Sister Madeline Therese DiCarlo, C.S.J., a Sister of St. Joseph, Brentwood, for 64 years, who ministered at Our Lady of Perpetual Help parish, Sunset Park, for 38 years, died Dec. 11.
She attended Visitation B.V.M. School, Red Hook, and St. Joseph H.S., Downtown Brooklyn, before entering the congregation in 1951 from her home parish of Visitation.
She earned a bachelor’s degree in business education from St. John’s University, Jamaica, and a master’s in business education from Hunter College, Queens. She received certification in supervision/administration from Fordham University, Manhattan.
Sister Madeline devoted more than half of her life to Our Lady of Perpetual Help. She taught at the school, 1954-61; served two terms as principal, 1970-81 and 1994-2005; and then ministered in the parish from 2005 until two months before her death.
She also taught at St. Anthony of Padua, Greenpoint, 1953-54; St. Vincent de Paul, Williamsburg, 1961-65; Queen of Peace, Kew Gardens, 1965-66; St. Teresa of Avila, Prospect Heights, 1966-70; and St. Mary Mother of Jesus, Bensonhurst, 1981-94.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church.
Interment followed in Calvary Cemetery, Brentwood.
