Sister Eleanor

Sister Eleanor Novak, C.S.J., a Sister of St. Joseph, Brentwood, L.I., for 60 years, died in Maria Regina Residence Sept. 3.

Born in Brooklyn, she attended St. Joseph’s H.S., Downtown Brooklyn, and entered the congregation in 1957 from Resurrection parish, Gerritsen Beach.

She taught at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Sunset Park, 1960-61; St. Martin of Tours, Bedford-Stuyvesant, 1961-63; St. Francis de Sales, Belle Harbor, 1963-66; Immaculate Heart of Mary, Windsor Terrace, 1966-71; and St. Brendan, Midwood, 1971-74.

She also ministered at Catholic Medical Center, Jamaica, 1974-76; Mary Immaculate Hospital, Jamaica, 1976-79; and St. Francis of Assisi, Crown Heights, 1979-80

For 22 years, she ministered at St Joseph’s Children’s Center in Brooklyn until she retired in 2002.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Maria Regina Chapel, Sept. 5. Burial followed in Calvary Cemetery, Brentwood.
